How could the Ranua bogs be better utilised?
In search of swamp treasures
Ranua has investigated what kind of welfare products and services as well as food could be obtained from the soil and peatlands in the area.
The aim of the project has been to promote the development of new product development and research activities around peatlands, thus creating new businesses and jobs in Ranua.
The aim was also to have a preliminary look at the current international market in the sector and the possibilities for Ranua to enter it.
The project has provided, among other things, the latest information on the peatlands of Ranua and an assessment of their potential for use in welfare products and services and food. The project also provided more information on markets and the need to develop products and services, among other things.
The project on the potential use of peat masses in welfare products, services and food has been a joint project of the municipality of Ranua and the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK). The project was supported by the European Regional Development Fund. The project started in May 2021 and ended in February 2023.
